Electric Ford Bronco to Launch with BYD Battery

Ford is preparing to launch the electric Bronco, developed in collaboration with Chinese Jiangling Motors, in China. This SUV, boasting a 650 km range, utilizes BYD’s lithium iron phosphate battery.

After a long hiatus of 25 years, the Ford Bronco returned to life in 2021, initially sold with four and six-cylinder engines. However, the situation in China is quite different. Ford has introduced a fully electric Bronco model there. This BYD battery-powered model will be produced through a joint venture between Ford and Jiangling Motors.

The electric Ford Bronco is presented as a 5-seater SUV with dimensions of 5025 mm in length, 1960 mm in width, 1815 mm in height, and a 2950 mm wheelbase. The vehicle’s curb weight has been announced as 2630 kg.

In its dual-motor version with four-wheel drive, the Bronco offers a total power output of 232 kW (311 hp). The model has a top speed of 170 km/h and uses a BYD-manufactured lithium iron phosphate battery. With a high capacity of 105.4 kWh, the battery promises a 650 km range according to the CLTC standard valid in China. A striking detail in the images of the Ford Bronco is the Lidar sensor positioned on the windshield. This indicates that Ford will incorporate advanced driving assistance systems into the new Bronco.

The electric Ford Bronco is scheduled to go on sale in China in the last quarter of 2025. While the starting price has not yet been officially revealed, it is rumored to be around $42,000.
